About Us at James Meade

Our History

James Meade Limited started out life in 1982 as a shirt specialist offering customers the very best tailored shirts at affordable prices. During the 90's the business expanded into ladies and gentlemen's tailoring, maintaining the excellent quality standards that had marked its historic success. In 2003 the founder, James Meade himself, retired and the business was purchased by WCF Ltd in Cumbria specialising in mail order and ecommerce fulfilment. So, with a wide range of clothing including liberty blouses and shirts offering superb value, we are confident you'll find something to suit you.

Co-ordination and Collaboration

Our designer, who creates a beautiful co-ordinated selection of garments for both men and women each season, works closely with a variety of woven and print houses to put together a collection of distinctive clothing. Only when we are completely happy with the designs are the garments made up in small quantities, by specialist manufacturers, making our collections more desirable and exclusive. Over the years we have developed our range to include everything from men's shirts, ladies' blouses to traditional separates, knitwear and accessories. We aim to offer you excellent customer service.

Product Guarantee

To maintain our own quality requirements, our technical team constantly monitor suppliers and undertake extensive garment testing. It is because we set such high standards that we offer a unique product guarantee - it has no time limit. If you are unhappy with your purchase in any way at any time we will exchange or give you a refund in full.

Committed to our Customers

As part of WCF, James Meade is now an employee-owned business, which enables us to prioritise our customers and our teams as our key stakeholders. By promoting long-lasting relationships, we strive to deliver unrivalled excellent customer service alongside products of excellent quality and value. Our dedicated customer care team at our Cumbrian head office are available on the phone or via Live Chat and you will also find frequently asked information on our website.

Community Minded

We are lucky to be based in a beautiful spot near Hadrian’s Wall in rural Cumbria and provide local people with diverse and interesting roles in retail without them needing to leave the county. We support the Cumbrian community through partnerships with local charities and make charitable cash and product donations to a range of charities. We also encourage our teams to take part in volunteering and fund-raising by match funding what they raise through their own efforts.

Our People

Our teams at James Meade are given the freedom to contribute positively to improving our customer experience, our products and the place in which they work. We foster a culture of continued professional development and encourage our teams to develop new roles and skills. Our employee owned model allows the divestment of responsibility and autonomy, allowing our people to take good decisions on behalf of the business and create high levels of intimacy with our customers. Our focus on high employee engagement and giving our teams an Employee Voice means that we enjoy high levels of employee retention.

Our Employee Owned Structure

Our unique structure of employee ownership means that all our people have a personal interest in our continued and sustained success, allowing them to make a meaningful difference to our performance. With a shared sense of purpose we all share financially in our success through our annual Employee Ownership Dividend and the issue of free shares. This creates a lasting bond with the company.
